“I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.”— Psalm 34:4

A Response from Heaven

Dear reader,My name is Emerson, and the story I’m about to tell — briefly but sincerely — is true. I’m proud to have lived it because it deeply marked my walk with God.

It all began when I was around 15 years old. I had been invited to attend a church called the Foursquare Gospel Church. Although I was raised in a Christian home, I had never truly encountered God. But that was about to change.

From the moment I gave my life to Jesus, I fell in love with the Gospel and with Him. I devoted myself to prayer, fasting, reading the Bible, and seeking His presence more and more. I was in love — and when you’re in love, the only thing you want to talk about is the one you love.

So I started preaching and sharing what I learned with my classmates, whether during recess or whenever I had the chance. Some listened, others not so much. Over time, I became a target of mockery. They called me names like "weirdo" and "little pastor." Even close friends began to avoid me, afraid of being treated the same way.

After a few weeks of this, I was worn out and felt completely alone. I had heard about God’s power and wonders, but I had never experienced them myself. That thought consumed me. If I was going to keep preaching and suffering rejection, then I needed to be sure I was on the right path.

So I went into the church’s storage room, where they kept brooms and cleaning supplies, and prayed:

"God, if You can hear me, give me a sign. It doesn’t have to be anything big—just tell me if I’m pleasing You."

I left and didn’t think much about it — but later that very afternoon, my grandmother invited me to something special. A missionary was coming to preach at her church’s "Afternoon of Blessing," and since the missionary was from far away, it was a unique opportunity to hear her speak.

We went. The service lasted about two hours, and every word spoken seemed to burn within our hearts. The worship songs filled me with joy, and the presence of God in that place was almost tangible. At the end, the missionary began to pray and lay hands on each person.

I didn’t realize I was the last one in line. When she got to me, it was different. Instead of a loud and passionate prophecy like the others had received, she stood silently for nearly a minute. Then, in a calm, gentle voice, she said only one thing:

“You are pleasing Me.”

I cried deeply that afternoon. Even though I understood what had just happened, I was in awe. God had heard me in that tiny storage room — and now, through a complete stranger, He had answered me.

He was watching me. He saw my heart.

To some, this story may sound simple or unimpressive. But if you listen closely and believe what I’m saying, you’ll see how wonderful it is. I spoke with the Creator of the universe in a broom closet, and He responded through a traveling missionary I had never met before.

Today I’m 30 years old, and I have never walked away from my Lord. On the contrary — I confess His name daily and see His hand in every step I take. And when things seem hopeless, everything somehow comes together, just like in a quote I love from Phileas Fogg:

“Everything will be settled mathematically.”

So no matter how hard life may seem, you are not alone. God is listening to you — always.

Our Lord rests peacefully even during the fiercest storms at sea — so do not fear. Trust in Him.
